VP of Marketing | Austin, Texas

About Eterneva

Eterneva is looking for a VP of Marketing to join a category-creating company and dominate a massive and untapped death care market.

This is a rare opportunity to use your experience scaling DTC or eComm brands to grow a category-defining company that isn't selling your typical mall staple-turned DTC product.

With first-mover advantage, raving reviews from existing customers, and ownership of their own supply chain, Eterneva is set to be the leading grief wellness brand in a massively untapped $68B death care market.

Join the team changing the culture around death, grief, and remembrance - and not only disrupt but actually create the market for grief wellness in the process.

About Eterneva

Eterneva is a celebration of life company that honors the lives of remarkable people and pets by turning their ashes into real diamonds.

Over the eight month journey to create the diamond, we send monthly pictures, videos, and updates to give our customers something to look forward to during a tough time, and as a result, many say we change their relationship to grief.

We pride ourselves in being forward-thinking in our industry-bringing obituaries into the 21st century with our personalized, digital dedication pages and partnering with Baylor University to develop groundbreaking new grief research that hasn't been modernized in over 50 years.

We're starting with memorial diamonds but our bigger vision is to lead the cultural movement around grief wellness and to become the platform and leading brand for all things celebration of life and grief wellness.

The Opportunity

We have traction and customers love us...

Since starting in 2016, we’ve raised $4.8M from an impressive array of angel and VC investors. Even in the midst of the pandemic, we're 66% above targeted revenue and our AOV is up 50%.

We make raving fans out of every customer we serve with an average NPS of 87. They fly across the country to visit us and send handwritten letters to thank us for some much-needed brightness and for directly impacting their lives.

And we're garnering a ton of attention for our fresh approach - we recently made Inc and Forbes 30 Under 30 lists and the cover of Inc Magazine. We’ve been featured on Shark Tank (with investment from Mark Cuban), Keeping Up With the Kardashians, The World According to Jeff Goldbloom, Yahoo Finance, Viceland’s 2 Chainz Most Expensivist, On the Money, and are doing diamonds for multiple celebrities.

While overseeing Marketing, Acquisition, and Growth you will...

Do more than just your typical direct response digital ads. These won't be your usual rinse and repeat Facebook and Google ad campaigns. We'll need you to think outside of the paid acquisition box.

Besides our paid channels, you'll be tasked with aggressively growing our channel sales through regional partnerships and local marketing campaigns. You'll also scale up word of mouth marketing and grow our referral and viral channels.

And we're looking to you to spin up a lead-nurturing powerhouse with a thoughtful, automated, and multi-touchpoint lead-nurturing strategy.

We're looking to be the go-to grief wellness company and you'll be responsible for overseeing our brand and content teams to drive awareness of our brand.

You're experienced and like getting in the weeds...

You’re a great fit if you have a player-coach mentality with a roll-up-your-sleeves attitude.

This is not your first rodeo. You've done this before, preferably with experience selling highly branded and high consideration products, and managing the process towards consumer conversions.

You're also analytical, data-driven, and obsessed with A/B testing and experimentation. You're mission-driven and want to work on something meaningful that positively impacts the lives of others. You will find so much fulfillment in the work!

The Reasons (why you want to jump on board)

Be a category creator and dominate a massive market.

Death is massive, unavoidable market with a U.S. market size of $68B projected by 2023. People want soulful solutions, but the options and brands are few.

Join the team changing the culture around grief and not just disrupt but actually create the grief wellness category in the process.

Have tremendous challenge and freedom.

We don't expect you to operate out of a playbook. We have a remarkable product and we need your remarkable marketing chops to test new channels, scale up the ones that are working, and explore new opportunities to drive awareness for our brand and product.

Take risks, tow the line, and be in charge of these decisions.

Work with mission-driven teammates.

You will be working with A-players daily. We're a lean team but we get shit done with limited bureaucracy and a growth-mindset.

We also get along and treat each other with incredible respect and everyone is extremely passionate about our mission to change how people experience grief and celebrate end of life.

The Ideal Candidate

You must have:

  • Experience with high consideration products and high-ticket funnels; Eterneva products range in price from $3k-$50k

  • Scaled revenue from 7-figures onward via paid acquisition while hiring and managing a growth team at a scaling DTC or eCommerce startup

  • Hands-on, player-coach mentality; a love of getting into the weeds from the get go, with the ability to eventually grow a team and mentor others

  • Ability to opportunity size across channels and funnels to stack-rank initiatives and spend to drive the most impact towards our overall business objectives

  • Analytical skills with a data-driven mindset and bias towards experimentation and action

  • Strong appreciation for brand marketing and experience working with, and ideally, overseeing brand and content teams

  • Desire to be a category-creator and experiment with channels to drive awareness for an entirely new product and product category

  • Want to work at an early stage startup with a few million in revenue

  • Passionate about our mission to change how people experience grief and celebrate end of life

Preferably you have also:

  • Worked closely with sales team to build out lead generation and sales funnel

  • Channel marketing experience, especially with regional B2B2C models and SMB partnerships

  • Worked closely with cross-functional teams, including content/branding, sales, product teams

  • Track record of growing, managing, and leading an internal marketing team

  • Background in finance, e.g. investment bank or management consulting experience
